The second edition of the Digital Infrastructures for Research (DI4R) conference will be held on 30 November and 1 December 2017 in Brussels. Europe's leading e-infrastructures, EGI, EUDAT, GÉANT, OpenAIRE, PRACE and RDA Europe, invite all researchers, developers and service providers for two days of brainstorming and discussions at DI4R under the theme “Connecting the building blocks for Open Science”. The 5th PRACE SHAPE Call for Applications was open for European SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) to submit proposals from 31 March to 1 June 2017. The Selection Committee, made up of representatives of the PRACE Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC), the PRACE Board of Directors (BoD) and the PRACE-5IP Project, reviewed all applications and awarded six novel projects of European SMEs for access to the PRACE HPC Infrastructure.

A wide range of activities took place at the PRACE booth at ISC 2017. PRACE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CHPC, South Africa. PRACE sponsored the PRACE-ISC Research Poster Award this year for the first time. The PRACE booth team welcomed more than 300 ISC visitors and had interesting talks about PRACE activities. A novelty was the dedicated booth space for the EXDCI project.

GENCI to boost France scientific competitiveness and industrial innovation with new petascale supercomputer
(Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation) and GENCI, the French national agency in charge of funding and making available large-scale facilites in high performance computing, hailed the signing of a contract, with ATOS Bull, for providing a new supercomputer that will further increase the scientific and economic competitiveness of both France and Europe, with an investment effort of 24 million euros.
